As you may have noticed Inside PSP has been on the shelf for the better part of a year. It is, however, time that we dust off the shelves.

What better way to kick Inside PSP back into gear than with a post about Sony’s lame attempt to pass some viral adverstising off as a blog.

Busted. Nailed. Snagged. As many of you have figured out (maybe our speech was a little too funky fresh???), Peter isn’t a real hip-hop maven and this site was actually developed by Sony. Guess we were trying to be just a little too clever. From this point forward, we will just stick to making cool products, and use this site to give you nothing but the facts on the PSP.

I have only two questions:

1. Did anyone ever believe that this wasn’t advertising?

2. Did Sony believe that people would actually believe that this site was a real blog?

If All I want for Chrstmas is a PSP is the best that PR firm Zipatoni could come up with, they should be ashamed of themselves for actually taking Sony’s money for this.

UMDs for the Sony PSP aren’t selling well

It would appear that yet another proprietary format from Sony, this time UMD, isn’t selling that well. My question to Sony is when are you guys going to figure out that formats that only work in your gear, probably won’t do too well.

Lets see how many reasons UMD sucks we can come up with…

UMD titles are expensive
There are too few UMD movie titles available
You cannot record your own UMDs
UMDs only play in the PSP (not very universal if you ask me)
Feel free to add your own reasons to the list…

It’s no wonder that studio after studio is cutting back on production.

Is a VoIP PSP Phone coming?

Will we soon see Voice over IP on the PSP? Rafael Espiritu from PSPFanboy asks the same question and my take is it probably is. If you think about it, the PSP already has Wi-Fi and can get on the web. I am sure that someone could come up with some type of microphone that could plug into the USB port. It won’t be long before someone hacks up something that will allow them to use SKype or Google Talk right from the PSP.

High Capacity Memory Sticks on the way

Sony has announced at the Computer and Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week that it will be launching higer capacity Memory Stick Pro Duo media with 4GB and 8GB of free space sometime in 2006.

Sony Relaunches Connect in March

Sony has announced at CES convention in Las Vegas that they will launch a revamped version of their Connect music-download service. Connect was initially launched in May of 2004 to compete directly with iTunes but has struggled to compete for market share.

“Soon, Sony will be rewriting the rules once again,” the company said in a statement. “The Connect service will enable you to download hundreds of videos, games, and TV shows as well as films and other content. You’ll even be able to browse from a wide selection of .”

The one thing that I hope this time around is that Sony doesn’t make Connect incompatible with iPod. I think that was the single biggest blunder that they made the first time around.

I ‘ve always thought that it would be cool to pull RSS feeds down to my PSP. Now I can with MioMediaBox for PSP v1.11.

Game studio Sidhe Interactive announced that Gripshift for the Sony PSP, a mix of platform, driving, and puzzle elements, has won “Best Handheld Game of 2005” at the Austrailian Game Developers Awards in Melbourne last week.

PSP Keyboard from Logic 3

One of the things on my wish list for the PSP is a keyboard that will, of course, allow you to type and enter text directly on to the PSP. It looks like this wish may be granted with the PSP Keyboard from Logic 3, however, I am not sure that I will be waiting in line to get this particular version.

If you take a look at the mock up you will notice that the PSP Keyboard doubles as a screen protector which is kind of cool. The problem is that to accommodate the dual functionality, the size of the keyboard is very small. I am 6′4″ and have hands the size of someone 6′8″. I think that I will wait until someone comes out with a fold out keyboard like you see for many PDAs that is a bit bigger.

I would also like to see some type of Sony PSP Certified logo or something. The release date for the L3 PSP Keyboard is around the end of February but that date has slipped many times since it was first announced. Firmware updates are released often for the PSP and I would want to make sure that any keyboard I buy will work if the OS is updated.

Sony Launches Mobile.Station: Web portal for the PSP

Sony has launched a web portal designed specifically for the PSP called Mobile.Station.

Beyond just providing information with a compact, PSP-friendly interface, Mobile.Station offers PSP users downloadable trailers, wallpapers, and even new content for games (which for the moment is limited to extra tracks in GripShift). The site also offers a number of links to other mobile-friendly sites, and screenshots and information for a number of PSP, PS2, and PC games.
